WHERE TO EAT THE LEGITTIM PASTEL DE BELÉM?
You can go by public transport. You can go by (train) on the Cascais Line from Cais do Sodré (metro station of the same name) and get off at Belém station for 1.30 € *. When leaving the train walk about 600m. Search the schedules on the Comboios de Portugal website. Another easy way to get to Pastéis de Belém is by tram number 15E, which starts at Praça da Figueira, in the centre and next to the Rossio subway. It goes by Terreiro do Paço and Cais do Sodré. Get off at Belém-Jerónimos “stop” ( see the route on map ). The tram costs € 2.90.

Taxi fares
The basic taxi fare in Lisbon is € 0.47 per km, and there is a least fare of € 3.25. Taxis can charge € 14.80 per hour for waiting (or € 0.25 per minute for traffic jam!). At night (21h-6h) fares increase by 20% - € 0.56 per km with a least fare of € 3.90. But it's funny because the standby rate is the same, being € 14.80 per hour.
There are extra baggage allowances: € 1.60 (all baggage, not per piece). And € 0.80 for telephone bookings (if your hotel calls for a taxi). Wheelchairs and strollers are free. You will see the prices on the taxi window.
Note: The baggage charge applies even if you do not put the larger item in the trunk of the taxi.
Calling a cab in Lisbon
In most tourist areas of Lisbon, you can call taxis from the street or find them waiting at a taxi rank. When you need to call a taxi, call Radio Taxis (Tel: 218119000, 969531660 or 919781000). It is the largest company and has English-speaking attendants. An alternative company is Autocoope (Tel: 217932756).

Are Lisbon taxis safe?
Yes, taxis are safe. All drivers have their registration card, with the driver's photo, is always on display. Where to stay in Lisbon: the best areas
- Marquês de Pombal - The Marquês de Pombal area, is near Eduardo VII Park. It is a popular option for tourists looking for cheap accommodation in a good location. The region is in the new part of the city. At the end of Avenida da Liberdade, and has a wide range of hotels with a good structure. Unlike the more central neighbourhoods, where the lodgings are usually in old buildings.
- Liberdade Avenue - Avenida da Liberdade starts at Rossio and moves away from downtown to Praça Marquês de Pombal. It is a wide boulevard with a vast central flowerbed full of coffee shops. Following the cliché of comparisons. It's like the Champs Elysees of Paris or Passeig de Gràcia of Barcelona. It is a sophisticated region full of luxury shops and luxury hotels.
