1. The medieval city of Rhodes

The medieval town of Rhodes is one of the island's must-see attraction. The Largest and best-preserved fortified city in Europe is the UNESCO World Heritage Site! When the Knights of Saint-John appeared on the island in 1309, they decided to build this impressive citadel. The 4 km fortified walls, with many fortresses and towers, are exceptionally well preserved. There are only pedestrian streets within the walls. You will be able to take a pleasant stroll and enjoy its smooth paved roads and beautiful ancient monuments. 

Now, the medieval city of Rhodes is entirely devoted to tourism: you will find many taverns, restaurants and shops. The place is also bustling (even if I visited Rhodes in late September!).

Some of the best sites to visit for your Holidays in Lindos are:

• The excellent Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes: one of the first castles created by the Knights. Inside there is the museum dedicated to the History of Rhodes and the Grand Master's apartment with its magnificent mosaic floors. Unfortunately, most of the furniture destroyed when an ammunition stock exploded in 1856.
• Rua dos Cavaleiros: there each language had its inn (also called "auberge" or "palatial residence"). You will see the Inn of the Tongue of France, or the Inn of the Tongue of England, for example.
• The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes Location is in the medieval Knights' Hospital. There you will see many antique objects discovered in Rhodes and some other Dodecanese islands.
• The Roloi Clock Tower it's where you can admire a beautiful view of the Old Town at the top.
• The Byzantine Art Museum has many frescoes and icons of the Byzantine era.
• The Churches of Agia Triada / Agia Aikaterini.
• The Suleman Mosque that built during the Turkish occupation of Rhodes.

If you would like to unwind on the beach and swim in crystal clear waters, Holidays in Lindos is an excellent plan for 2020

The best beaches for a swim in Rhodes:

• Faliraki Beach: Its Located at 10 km south of Rhodes Town, it is one of the most popular and busiest beaches on the island. By the sea, you will discover many hotel complexes offering all-inclusive stays.
• Tsambika: A beautiful beach of fine sand, ideal if you have children. Sun loungers and parasols to rent, as well as many boating activities.
• Anthony Quinn Beach was named after the lead actor in the movie "Zorba the Greek" as it was his favourite beach!
• St. George's Bay, where you will find two small beaches with a beautiful view of the Acropolis of Lindos. Most of the beach is private. There is also a beautiful white chapel that hosts some weddings every year.
• The beaches near Lindos- located just below the village. It is a magnificent place to relax and have a swim after visiting the Acropolis.
• Sanded out, ideal if you have kids
• Prasonisi- at the southern end of the island is one of the most beautiful beaches in Rhodes. This sandy beach separates the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. It is also a great spot for windsurfers!
• Gennadi is a beautiful and quiet pebble beach. The water is clear there, so it is perfect for snorkelling. You can also rent sun loungers.
• Kiotari, a private sandy beach with several taverns
• Pefki, located just 4 km from Lindos. It is much quieter than the nearest beaches of Lindos.
• Agathi is a small beach mostly frequented by locals
• Vlicha (or Vlycha) is an excellent choice if you have kids. There you can rent sun loungers and enjoy some restaurants.
• Glystra - has fine warm sand and crystal clear waters.

OTHER MOST SUITABLE DODECANESE ISLANDS TO VISIT AROUND RHODES

If you have seen most of Rhodes, you should visit the other nearby Dodecanese islands:

• Symi: is one of the closest islands to Rhodes. Getting there by ferry is very easy.
• Halki if you want to relax away from the hectic tourist areas.
• Kos: The 3rd most significant island of the Dodecanese is famous for its beautiful sandy beaches and incredible nightlife.
• Leros, for hiking lovers!

The plane is the quickest and most suitable way to get to Rhodes. The island's international airport located 16 km southwest of the city of Rhodes. Even if there are some direct flights to Rhodes, you may have to make the connecting flight via Athens or maybe Thessaloniki.
